In the beginning of 19th century, the mechanical scanning of images was developed due to the facsimile transmission systems for still photographs. Between 1843 and 1846, the facsimile system was introduced by Alexander Bain.
In 1884, a Nipkow disk was patented by Paul Julius Gottlieb Nipkow. He was a student of German university. A line of images would be scanned by a spiral pattern of holes located in the spinning disk of Nipkow.
The word television is coined by Constantin Perskyi in a paper read in Paris for International Electricity Congress. On August 25th, 1900, the event was conducted at International World Fair.
The paper of Perskyi provided a review about electromechanical technologies.
